Pep Boys salesperson not keeping his word!

1.8
Details
Sirs: On July 1, 2017, I brought my 2 1/2 year old BOSCH battery into the Corona Pep Boys for testing and the salesperson, Andrew, said another battery was being tested and it would be a while before they would be able to test mine. Since it would be near closing time, Andrew said I could leave it and call for the results later, or come back the next day. In case the battery tested bad, I was told I still had a $40 prorated credit due me under the original 96 month warranty. I returned the next day and was told the battery would no longer hold a charge and that I needed to replace it with a new one. After purchasing a new equivalent series 78 battery, I was told by salesperson, Andrew, that there was no one in the store able to apply my $40 warranty credit to my purchase and that I would have to return the next day to obtain same. With much frustration, I asked how many trips must I make to his store to get a simple battery replacement transaction accomplished? With his understanding of the dilemma, he talked to his manager or supervisor and came back to me with the offer of a manager's 25% discount coupon applied directly to the battery purchase that day as well as obtaining the $40 warranty credit upon my return when there would be someone, we'll call female cashier Geri, available. Upon returning the following day, the manager on duty refused to allow salesperson, Andrew, to be included in any discussion we were having of what had transpired in earlier dealings with me, and promises made to me. The manager claimed that salesperson, Andrew, nor his supervisor, would never be authorized to make such a promise on any given transaction, and that I was much better off with the 25% discount than the $40 warranty credit towards a new battery anyway. This was just a way of smoothing over what obviously was a mistake made by salesperson, Andrew, and his supervisor/manager at the time of the transaction the day before and I was not in the mood to hear any of it. In conclusion, salesperson, Andrew, specifically told me that my net cost out the door on Sunday, July 2, 2017, was going to be about $77 instead of the finally paid out amount of $117. After having done business over a great many years with Pep Boys, both in Corona, and earlier in Fullerton, I have reached the end of my rope with the whole sales force. Pep Boys in Chula Vista, California - Deceptive Service Desk Manager

2.7
Details
PEPBOYS BROADWAY AVE CHULA VISTA CA. 11/29/2016. For front end suspension repair 2008 VW Beetle Conv. 2.5L. The estimate went from 19.99 at 0939 am to $911 with nothing written to nearly $1900 at 630pm. WRONG AND NOT FAIR Checked vehicle in for noise front Driver side when in speed dips, bumps. Desk manager Mark handled arrival. Courteous at first. Told 19.99 to inspect the car and latervwe work that out if work is done. 1st problem is naturally if work is done, the inspection fee would be dropped. Wrong ! Tech did the Inspection. Said the lower tie rods were loose and needed replacement, along with balljoint {small}. It was also recommened to change the strut unitls and strut mounts. On the screen was the estimate. And as use to be the norm, as if all the work was to be done. I clearly asked how much for the repairs and stated by the desk manager he said $911. I mentioned on the screen was an alignment. But I was already covered 5 year plan. He said he would remove it. Then said it will be just under 900. I said ok. Asked if I needed to sign the estimate. He said no. STRANGE Pepboys always had a clearly written estimate. TECHNICIAN SHOWED loose lower control bar. Struts looked ok, no leaks or heavy worn. But ok change. I left cameback at 1pm. Problem. The monro spectrum struts did not fit. The lower end strut was way too large- but they had another but it would not be in until 5 or 6 pm. The manager did not want to call vw or around but did with my insistence. He found another strut unit and sent someone to get them. The parts arrived and service continued. The rep left and turned over to a desk service rep. The car was put on the alignment rack and when done. I went to checkout expecting a bill for 800 plus. Oh no, after being asked what i was quoted and said a little over 800. He said we had a problem. He quoted nearly $1900. No way! He went to another computer and worked some numbers. Took off the 19.99 and some overpriced lefetime warranties, took off the alignment but alignment labor for similar amount. Did not honor 50% off strut installment as advertized. Said he drpped it by 20% {actually dropped warranty overages for struts and control arms}. … it was reduced to 1300 plus. Refused to discuss further refused to have store manager cone and review saying we already talked to a manager on the phone. Refused military discount as always provided. Horrible way to treat customers.

Pep Boys in Oceanside, California - Service and repair

had my vw bug towed to PepBoys Oceanside (Plaza) for a broken heater hose connector after they replaced it said the car was over heating, strange because I had a new radiator with hoses installed 30 days ago, they came back and admitted three times that they miss diagnosed the problem and would take care of it no charge this was said by two managers and one store manager. 6 weeks later I pick up my car some how the battery was completely dead so bought a new one, *** in my car and the speedometer does not work, took it back, they said they will look into it and fix it well over two months later manager calls said it is the cluster i need to pay 1,500.00 to fix it..Strange there was never a problem with it. When I make a mistake or mess up I admit it and fix it on my dime that is the right thing to do.. So I take in my car in for a cracked connector and paid for that and get back a car I cant drive because I cant tell how fast im going unless i paid them 1,500.00 I demand to be compensated for there inability to fix my car correctly the first time!!! Pep Boys Panorama City ,Scam , Does not care about customers , It's all about MONEY!

I came here this morning, due to the following reasons : 1. There is the sound coming from under my feet/ under left side under my car. 2. The car died on me twice while driving ( when traffic light was on red, scary !). ( Before I brought my car today, I went to the same place, Pep boys 2 days ago in the afternoon, since it was busy they told me to comeback in the morning ( it was Jonathan, he is very nice guy), the reason of the visit was the sound, metal popping sound when I turn the car). Today I came in at ...I believe before 9AM or exactly 9. The person there ( maybe he is the manager , Luis,I will not release his last name , because I do not have bad intention to release him publicly) He asked me why I came here for? (the car problems) I said , there is a sound under my feet a metal sound that is popping when I turn and when driving off and on , 2nd is the car died on me 2 times.... he wrote it down the paper and he asked me more question like ... does it have a light coming out ( from the dashboard?) I said yes... ( but I am worried about the car dying and the sound) That is why I went to pep boys. He let me sign, it say's $89.99 ( diagnostic) .I signed because I wanted them to see what is going on with my car and I want it fixed today if they can. So I was here before 9am or 9, I waited until past 11AM, since I was hungry , I left just to grab something to eat. After maybe an hour or less, they called me back. They told me they found the problem, so I said I'll walk back, I am just few blocks away. Then they showed me the paper what they need to do with my car. It will cost me like almost $500 ( diagnostic charge was added there, but on the website and from their corporate , says it will be waved when you have your car fixed there). So they told me if the things will be fixed the "Check Engine Light" will be GONE! I said , oh, how's the problem why the car is dying and how's the sound under my car? ( The main reason why I came for). They told me , they need to do another diagnostic... AND will cost ANOTHER $89.99 . They told me they did not hear any sound under the car and car did not die , So I tried to ask the guy ( he is nice , named Jonathan, trying to explain things) I asked the guy if that quote they gave me has something to do with the problems why I came here for?. The two guys told me , it has "NOTHING" to do with the problems I came in for, It's a total separate things and not related to the main reason and problems of the car. They told me , I need to pay another $89.99 for another diagnostic? Are they really serious? I don't mind paying the diagnostic fee, that is why I signed for the fee. BUT my concern is the "sound under my car and the problem that the car died on me on the road " while i am on red light. The light "Check Engine" comes and go ( I know I have to fix it , but I will have it done next visit) The light , check engine is not my priority today. I tried to ask the guy if they can fix something else related to the problem of the car instead of the 'Check Engine Light?" ( just a nice gesture to show them that I did not want to waste their time and effort) Their answer is , They need to do a new diagnostic ( back to square one and CHARGE again!) I called the corporate and wanted to know if that's how it works? ( I meant the system, when they cannot find a problem, look for another problem?) I spoke to an agent named "NICK" , he sounds nice when we were talking over the phone , And i explained what happened , and I gave him the phone number and address of the branch where I went ...I was put on hold for a moment ( he was on the other line with the manager at the store where I went) Then he came back to me ( over the phone) ,but the agent sounds loud now , *** and arrogant , He told me, that I gave the guys ( at Pep Boys) a go signal to have my car checked ( for $89.99), I said yes.. for checking the metal popping sound under the car and now , why they are trying to fix a different issue... NOT the metal sound under ( did they lift the car to see?) they said they drove it, and I believed them that they drove it... Actually we did drove the car ( before I go home), but the sound is not making any noise ( at the time) . In short ..It was a waste of my time ( Btw I acknowledged the hard work of the mechanic , pls don't get me wrong) But this is not what we were agreed on , NOT the "Check Engine Light" . It is disappointing .... especially the person at the corporate "NICK ". So unprofessional ! Btw he dropped the call after he was acting up like a J*RK. Well, I cannot get my car key without paying the diagnostic , I know in my heart I am telling the truth, The manager knows it.... He gave me $30 discount ( and i thanked him) , but my point is why this company wants to make money like this? This is a total rip off. My last visit to Pep boys (West Pico Branch), I paid $1,200 ( it is ok because I know they did something to my car, change all tires and other things... But seriously, today Pep BOYS " Van Nuys corner Tobias in Panorama City" Ripped me off!. Bad Bad Pep Boys! By the way, I found an honest mechanic. He told me the noise that making a sound under my car was the bearings, need to be changed and greased, also my beak pads needed to be changed.
