I had purchased Pep Boys Definity EX600 tires. After 17,000 miles, the outer belt of the driver side front tire came apart while traveling on I-15 in CA towards Las Vegas. Fortunately I was going under the spped limit on a Camry and I was able to control the car and avoid a major accident. The car was declared totalled by the insurance company appraiser. Now Pep Boys claims it's not responsible because they did not make the tires and Copper... Read more

I am a Pep Boys employee and I see first hand the ways they rip off the customer. From telling you your rotors are bad when they dont even have the tool to measure the run out on the rotors, to telling you your shocks are bad, and when you ask why they tell you that there is a small leak in the reservoir. But what they actually did was puncture a hole in it with a nail. Also never get your alignment done at Pep boys, all they will give you is... Read more

I purchased a Bosch car battery with a 36 month free replacement in 01/2009. When I purchaed the battery at the PEPBOYS in Salem, NH, they did a Prostart Complete starting system test and said it was all was OK. After a short period of time after I purchased the battery the car would not start if unused for 2 weeks or longer. I would have to use a battery charger to charage the battery each time I used the car if it sat for longer than 2 weeks.... Read more

I can remember being 7 years old at the Pimlico store back in 1962 when PepBoys had 3.5 HP Briggs & Stratton-powered lawn mowers on sale for $23.95, man those were the good ole days. Jump ahead to around ????, I got a job as a mechanic as the brand new store on Liberty road in Randallstown Maryland opened it's doors. We each had a brand new tool set and a box with numbers stamped on the tools, like BAY 3, TOOLS all stamped with "3" on them,... Read more

Just like some of the other people on here, I too fell for the buy 3 tires get one free Pep Boys scam. I opted for the more expensive tires because ultimately they would cost the same as the lower-end tires, after the rebate. I submitted for the rebate and I received a card a few weeks later stating "Installation Package must include Road Hazard Warranty". Nobody at the store disclosed this to me. I called the number on the post card. Spoke... Read more

I just had two tires replaced due to road hazzard. 13500 miles on 75000 mile tires. they were over half gone and I had to pay for 50% of the tire replacement cost. There should have been no more than 18 to 20% wear on these tires. They were used on a Subaru wagon, the correct touring tire for the car. The car is driven slow to average to save gas around town and on the hiway. These tires will be shot after only 25000 miles. One third of what... Read more

I purchased snowchains for about $93.00 from Pep Boys. Turns out someone gave us their snowchains so I didn't need them. I went to return the snowchains at Pep Boys and they tell me there would be a 20% "restocking fee" even though the snowchains were unopened and unused. In other words I would have to pay $18.00 for them to "restock" the snowchains about 25 feet away on their sales floor. When I purchased them, I wasn't told by the... Read more

I went to Pep Boys this weekend to take advantage of their tire deal. Yeah what a deal. You have to pay for all 4 tires. You get your money for the 4th tire back as a rebate check. I can deal with this. I could not deal with the 177.00 cost to mount and balance the tires. Total cost for 4 $72.99 tires after mounting with tax $527.00. That is a toal rip off. I went five miles down the road and bought 4 $80.00 tires from Firestone. They actaully... Read more

I took my 2005 Chevy Colorado to Pep Boys for front brakes, including new rotors. The salesman went into the system and quoted me the price, I agreed. After 30 minutes I was approached by the salesman who informed me that the job would take longer than expected due to the type of front end on my truck. Price went from $289 to $661. Needless to say I was pissed. I spoke to the manager but to no avail. He claimed the price quoted was an estimate... Read more

I have worked at Pep Boys now for 5 years, in 3 different Pep Boys stores in 2 different states. They are all the same. Customer service (aside from myself, of course) is just horrible. It's a joke. They do NOT care about their customers. The service department is even more of a joke, really. They ONLY care about MONEY! Probably because they are going broke fast. They will absolutely lie to you to get as much money as possible. They have... Read more
