Broke my ashtray
Pep Boys wrecked my car
We took our Expedition and Outlander to Pep Boys for service. $400 later, they returned the Outlander to us about lunch time.
I had to call them at 3:30pm to see about my Expedition. They told me they found the issue, but that they part had to come from the dealer, would call me with a price tomorrow. 5pm, I get a call from Juan telling me he has bad news. They were able to find a vacuum hose that would fit, but while test driving the SUV, someone rearended them!
Not their fault, but why I was even more pissed is that Juan was not apologetic at all. Just kept saying it wasn't their fault and that we needed to come down and show our insurance. I get their and Juan ignores us. I then state that I am their about the Expedition and he doesn't even look up from his paperwork and says he knows, but they have it all straightened out and he'll call me Monday!
I ask why he didn't call me when I had told him we had a 20 min drive to come down there and he states that he was too busy. Wow, sorry to inconvenience you, when you wrecked my accident free vehicle! It took 2 days of calling the store and corporate for me to get Charles, a service manager, who actually did the right thing. He called Corporate and the insurance and made sure it was being handled correctly and not only that, he waived the cost of repairs that we were going to have to pay Pep Boys.
Now they did still try to only give me a 10% discount (something I got with a coupon anyways!!!), but the minute I said Charles said it would be free, they handed over the vehicle. However, I still had to deal with a Geico investigator claiming I was letting the vehicle be used for business purposes!
I also lose trade in value, as the reason we were having repairs was so that we could trade it in in good repair and now even repaired loses trade in value. Kudos to Charles at the Alameda store in Albuquerque and BOO to the rest of that store and their corporate office.

Pepboys Rewards Membership
This rewards membership has a few things that are free. One of them being a free check when your "Check Engine Light" turns on.
So I took my truck in to have it checked after my 'Check Engine light" turns on and I was told that i have to leave my truck with them for anywhere between ONE to SIX hours. So I went somewhere else and not only had it check...but taken care of in less then an hour.
What kinda auto service place are they running!! It only takes one second to plug in the computer to find out !!!
Pep Boys mechanic stole my money from my ash tray.

Pep Boys Overcharging
Pepboys are bunch of liars and thief
i went to pepboys at metropolitan ave in ridgewood queens for a scheduled replacement of my brakepads.my brakes were fine and dont exhibit any form of signs of detoriation except i got 30,000 miles on my odometer.before they show signs of problem i went to them to replace my front and rear brake pads.i ask them to put a premium semi mettalic pads on both of them but unfortunately they cannot find premium pad for the rear so the cust rep ask me if i want the regular pad they have on their store.i hesitated but the rep told me if i will not be satisfied with them they will replace it at no charge.after week of driving my truck i hear some squeaking noise coming from the rear.i took it back and bought my own brake pads from the dealership and ask them to teplace it.after the mechanic check the brakes he told me i need new rotors for the front and rear and want to charge me 300 dollars fo it.when i first came there they did not mention anything about my rotors being warped and worn.and i told him when i went to the their store i just want my brake pads to be replaced.there were no problems with them except it is already scheduled.these are buch of liars and a thief to make it short.

April 2010
My Jeep Cherokee recently quit running while driving. I had the car towed to Pep Boys (it was late, they were closed) Went in to give them the key and explain the problem the next morning. Told them I had done some reseach, and the most likely cause was the crankshaft sensor.
The car sat for 2 days until they could get to it, at which time they ran their 90 dollar "diagnostic" which revealed nothing. They told me they didn't know what was wrong, and they would have to run more tests on components, which would cost another 100 dollars.
I called them back after 15 minutes, telling them to stop work, but they said they had found the problem: the ECM (the computer brain), and thet it would cost $660 to replace. I told them close the hood, I was having it towed out.
I spent some time browsing, and foud Atomotive Computer Exchange through eBay. I purchased a reconditioned "brain" from them, guarenteed for life for $185. I replaced the alleged "bad" one, and still no start.
Took it to a locally owned small repair shop, told him the trouble. He had it fixed in 1 hour. Seems it was the crankshaft sensor I had suggested to Pep Boys. Total repair bill: $180 (part was 100). Replaced old computer, still runs fine.
I just wonder if it was Pep Boys plan to keep replacing ignition related parts starting with the most expensive, until they stumbled upon the right one. Or maybe this is just how they trouble-shoot a problem. Either way, they have lost another customer.

Really? Maybe the thing just fell apart from erosion.
Hey Chainsmoker,
Try the corporate office but if they refuse to reimburse you for the damage take Pep Boys to your local Small Claims Court. Bring every piece of evidence with you.
It probably would have been a good idea to call the police from Pep Boys when you discovered that the ashtray assembly was damaged. It would have provided written documentation of the incident. Your receipt for the purchase of a new ashtray asembly will also be neeed if you go to court.
Pictures, if you had taken them, of the damaged ashtray assembly would also assist you in court. Good Luck!
