Broke my ashtray

I took my car to Pep Boys for a oil change, its a older 1986 Buick Park Ave.. Now my car is a mess on the inside, and I am a heavy smoker, well when I took the car in the ashtray was overflowing with cigartte butts, I should have emptied it, but didn't. When the car eas pulled done I paid the bill and went out to my car and the ashtray was hanging by the lighter wire, I went back in and asked what was this all about and the manager told me the mechanic was doing me a favor and dumped it for me but could not get it back in. I had to special order a new ashtray assemble from GM at a cost of 112.00. I got it and put it in myself and took the bill back to the manager and he refused to pay it, he told me that when you bring a car in for service it should be clean. I am writing the corporate office, I will keep u posted.

Really? Maybe the thing just fell apart from erosion.

Hey Chainsmoker,

Try the corporate office but if they refuse to reimburse you for the damage take Pep Boys to your local Small Claims Court. Bring every piece of evidence with you.

It probably would have been a good idea to call the police from Pep Boys when you discovered that the ashtray assembly was damaged. It would have provided written documentation of the incident. Your receipt for the purchase of a new ashtray asembly will also be neeed if you go to court.

Pictures, if you had taken them, of the damaged ashtray assembly would also assist you in court. Good Luck!

Pep Boys wrecked my car

We took our Expedition and Outlander to Pep Boys for service. $400 later, they returned the Outlander to us about lunch time.

I had to call them at 3:30pm to see about my Expedition. They told me they found the issue, but that they part had to come from the dealer, would call me with a price tomorrow. 5pm, I get a call from Juan telling me he has bad news. They were able to find a vacuum hose that would fit, but while test driving the SUV, someone rearended them!

Not their fault, but why I was even more pissed is that Juan was not apologetic at all. Just kept saying it wasn't their fault and that we needed to come down and show our insurance. I get their and Juan ignores us. I then state that I am their about the Expedition and he doesn't even look up from his paperwork and says he knows, but they have it all straightened out and he'll call me Monday!

I ask why he didn't call me when I had told him we had a 20 min drive to come down there and he states that he was too busy. Wow, sorry to inconvenience you, when you wrecked my accident free vehicle! It took 2 days of calling the store and corporate for me to get Charles, a service manager, who actually did the right thing. He called Corporate and the insurance and made sure it was being handled correctly and not only that, he waived the cost of repairs that we were going to have to pay Pep Boys.

Now they did still try to only give me a 10% discount (something I got with a coupon anyways!!!), but the minute I said Charles said it would be free, they handed over the vehicle. However, I still had to deal with a Geico investigator claiming I was letting the vehicle be used for business purposes!

I also lose trade in value, as the reason we were having repairs was so that we could trade it in in good repair and now even repaired loses trade in value. Kudos to Charles at the Alameda store in Albuquerque and BOO to the rest of that store and their corporate office.

Well I brought my Jeep Wrangler to Pepboys to get a simple oil change, and an employee "test drove" my jeep after they were finished, and ran into a cement pole. Now my Jeep maybe totaled, and the employee who was driving almost went through the windshield. The worst part is it was the afternoon before I was suppose to leave for a weekend at the beach!

If you want to be rude to people after the property they leave in your hands to care for is wrecked then your business will suffer appropriately. What is wrong with people that they can't just say, sorry I messed up let me take care of my mistake for you.

Instead it is always some one elses fault and pay up sucker. I would have knocked that guy out that didn't look up at me because he was too busy had I driven all the way to my nearest pep-boys at their request only to be ignored and told see you monday.

This is funny as ***! I wish I was a customer service rep at pepboys so that I could print and frame this complaint.

It would make a *** of a conversation piece at the office.

I would carry it with me to the company conferences and events, I would show it to people as I introduce myself and say: "I deal with this type of stuff all day". I would contact this customer and say:"Oye guey no mames, quien te colgo para chingarmelo?"

Pepboys Rewards Membership

This rewards membership has a few things that are free. One of them being a free check when your "Check Engine Light" turns on.

So I took my truck in to have it checked after my 'Check Engine light" turns on and I was told that i have to leave my truck with them for anywhere between ONE to SIX hours. So I went somewhere else and not only had it check...but taken care of in less then an hour.

What kinda auto service place are they running!! It only takes one second to plug in the computer to find out !!!

Had a blowout while on a long road trip. Got 4 new tires with extra tire coverage.

Got home, 6 months later, found a screw in tire. Called a local Pep Boys, told them the problem, wanted to bring in car to have tire checked, they told me they had no repair kits and, wouldn't be receiving any, for 3 days. Had to find another Pep Boys shop and take it there.

Was concerned because I would have to drive to another shop further away, with a screw in the tire.

I thought this place specialized in tires.

Guest

Some people think that the world revolves around them, and are oblivious to the fact that the place might have been busy with other customers who CALLED to have an appointment made. Wait your turn like everyone else and quit crying.

take the rewards program and stick it where the son never shines. Can't retrieve my points online because the site doesn't know me even after emailing pep boys which they never returned my question.

Pep Boys mechanic stole my money from my ash tray.

Why can't the mechanic do the job at hand and leave everything else alone. I hate mechanics. My ashtray was full of change, when I got my car back the ashtray was clean and all my money was gone. I hate pep boys, Manny off ,Moe off and *** Three fools. I will never do business there or shop there again. If you need great work for a fair price I suggest the Goodyear tire and service stores. Nothing but knowledgeable clean and friendly service. Women be ware of the higher price for females. Believe me I have seen it first hand. Boycott Pep Boys.

Pep boys don't stand behind warrenty

I purchased Hankook Optimo 70,000 mile prorated tires from Pep Boys. I was told during an oil chage at Midas that I needed new tires. My milage on my reciept from Pep Boys was 89,933 when I made the purchase. The mileage during this resent oil change is 106.375. That's about 16,000 miles. I went to tire Kingdom to verify I needed new tires and they said yes and was surprised that they were worn out evenly. I had to drive 20 miles to Pep Boys to get new prorated tires from Clearwater to Tampa. They have no offices in Clearwater/St Petersburg,FL (wonder why) The told me the new tires would be around 68 bucks each. I paid $68.99 each when new and purchased a tire protection warrenty and computerized wheel alignment. I told them what I paid and they said they are now selling for $89. I called a few days later for a price on the same tires and they said they are $81.-----***

#1 Yes--3 tire rotations in 16,000 miles and monthly air checks. The last tire rotation was when I was told I need new tiresand came back to Pet Boys

#2 No--tread was not unevenly worn and pep Boys did front end alignment when I bought the tires.

#3 No--I drive 2 1/2 miles to work and only put $10 in gas a week

#4 ***

#5 No-- this is Florida---Most stations would tell you that you needed something replaced even if it was not needed. I've never been told they need to be changed.

Additionally I also Called Hancook Tires and they blamed Pet Boys for not honoring the warranty. Next tires will be foreign and from Tires Plus. I had to drive over 20- miles to Tampa from Clearwater because Pet Boys can't keep a shop open in St. Petersburg

Guest

1. Did you ever rotate your tires during the time you had them? Did you keep your tires at the proper air inflation level?

2. There could be a suspension/shock/strut issue causing premature wear on the tires, and yes it could be evenly worn.

3. Were you using the vehicle for purposes the vehicle was not intended for (commercial etc.)?

4. The way a prorate works is that they take the tread depth and substact that from the new tire tread depth and you pay for the amount of tread you have used. Tire prices fluctuate up and down all the time. One day they could be 89.99 the next day they could be 81.99. You get prorated from the current cost of the tire, not the cost of the tire when you purchased it. Keep this stuff in mind before you make a complaint, it is an industry standard.

5. You may want to take your car somewhere and have the suspension and shocks/struts checked to make sure you don't have any problems.

Pep Boys Overcharging

I was overcharged for services NOT performed. How about that? I cannot post here the receipt for services which I had to pay but if you visit my website you can read the entire story and see the proof! Some of the things they detail on the receipt I cannot figure out. I mean I don't know who thinks this stuff up at Pep Boys but I advise everyone who reads this to check out what I put up on the website and see what you think about the situation. Pepboys are bunch of liars and thief

i went to pepboys at metropolitan ave in ridgewood queens for a scheduled replacement of my brakepads.my brakes were fine and dont exhibit any form of signs of detoriation except i got 30,000 miles on my odometer.before they show signs of problem i went to them to replace my front and rear brake pads.i ask them to put a premium semi mettalic pads on both of them but unfortunately they cannot find premium pad for the rear so the cust rep ask me if i want the regular pad they have on their store.i hesitated but the rep told me if i will not be satisfied with them they will replace it at no charge.after week of driving my truck i hear some squeaking noise coming from the rear.i took it back and bought my own brake pads from the dealership and ask them to teplace it.after the mechanic check the brakes he told me i need new rotors for the front and rear and want to charge me 300 dollars fo it.when i first came there they did not mention anything about my rotors being warped and worn.and i told him when i went to the their store i just want my brake pads to be replaced.there were no problems with them except it is already scheduled.these are buch of liars and a thief to make it short.

you said you brought it in for scheduled mait. on the brakes?

what kind of vehicle? i don't know of any vehicle manufacture that has a scheduled mait. on brakes, they are a wear and tear component and should be inspected regulary but are not replaced just cause of mileage.

Did you have your rotors machined at the same time they replaced the brake pads? if not that is most likely the reason for the brake noise, not quality of pad

Guest

I went to pepboys at Haddonfield road, in Cherry hill one saturday afternoon to have my oil changed. I decided to waited for it, and 2 and 1/2 hours later, it was finished.

I cleaned my vehicle, approximately 2 weeks later, I noticed my aluminum jack was missing from my trunk. Please, be awared and remove any items from your vehicle before going in to Pepboys.

Guest

All of the above is true. Some pad compounds also work rotors harder.

You may end up with a rotor that is concaved and lipped to the point of not being resurfacable. This is not ripping you off.

It is an effect of customer driving habits and wear of the braking systems. Making sure you are safe is always my priority.

Guest

:p 8) ;) :grin :) :roll :eek :upset :zzz :sigh :x :( :cry :?

Guest

Exactly. If your rotors are out of spec or close to being there, NO ONE is ripping you off to make sure your are SAFE.

Guest

Any time you swap pads you need to spec the rotors, make cure their thickness is safe fro resurfacing or turning, they can fall bellow the spec and your brakes will fail. The first time they swapped the brakes they may have been barely within spec, the second time they may not have been.

Also some brakes require a resurfacing of the rotor and others may not, if you are worried about noise you will always need to resurface if you are using semi-metalic pads rather than organic or ceramic. If you want it done right it will cost like a job done right.

Horrible

Don't do it. Don't make the sad mistake I did thinking Pep Boys will take good care of you. On 5-11-10 I left my car with them for a whole day to do an engine diagnostic. I told them it was bogging, stalling, and the engine light was on. On 5-15-10 my engine failed. I asked the Assistant Manager Melissa how that could happen; she said "I don't know." When I told the Service Manager Paul what had happened he said nothing. When I asked the Store Manager Brad how this could have happened he repeatedly kept saying, "I don't know." Are these the people you would trust to work on your car? I will never trust Pep Boys again. Don't you or your family members visit give them any of your business.

good question..did you get repairs recommended done? did you get a second opinion elsewhere? how long had the vehicle been bogging and stalling before it went into the shop?

Guest

how many miles did your engine have? what kind of failure was it?

what did their diagnostic find? engines fail all the time, for different reasons, a diagnostic checks for trouble codes in the computer and electronic systems, not engine wear.

Guest

So, did you get a diagnostic printout? What did it say? Did you follow up and have the repairs done?

Corey's complaint

all shops quote labor from usually the same labor guide, good mechanics can always finish job faster than book time yhats what makes them good and making good money, valuble to you the consumer and the buisness, if you would rather wait the full ten hours just sit in the waiting room an extra 6 hours before you pay. its amazing to me how most people in thier own jobs can justify the prices and practices in thier field but mechanics and auto shops are all scam artits. i dont see why the trash co. cant pick up and dump my trash for much lower price, after all they drive right by my house every day and go to the dump every day why so much just to cary my little trash with them?

Guest

what is the nature of your complaint? If i understand you correctly; you're a mechanic paying way too much for trash service..??

Or are you just tired of people calling you a ripp off when there's much bigger ripp offs out there being ignored? I agree to a point. I mean no one would walk into a restaurant and complain about the price of a steak and their "mark up" claiming that it only costs $2.79 a pound at the market, of why the glass of wine is $7.00 when you can buy the bottle for $8.99.

The truth is that some shops dont put up with it, they're professional and good business people, but most just cant seem to get it right. So get used to the complaints and the questioning of your prices and practices, its just the nature of the business.

No oil change

Took our vehicle in for several repairs including an oil change. After terrible service and a number of trips back to get them resolved we come to realize the oil change was never done and we paid for it. I would not let them ever touch another vehicle we own. when we called to complain each time we were told just bring the car in and we will check it out. Now that we found out they never changed the oil or filter we called and where told yes we did do an oil change. We have the filter that was just pulled out but at this point nothing will be done.

I change my own oil on all of my vehicles. I would say for the first thousand miles I can tell that the oil is not used.

And, certainly for the first few hundred I can see that the oil has a color and clarity resembling a shade of honey. It is certainly not black or dark brown.

I would have to agree, you can tell if your oil was changed. If you do it properly.

Guest

Its a little thing called and oil filter. Most places do change an oil filter that is a pretty good indicator. :grin

Guest

Exactly how is it that you know the oil was not changed? You state that you made "a number of trips" back to Pep Boys before realizing that the oil had not been changed.

If you are reaching this conclusion because the oil on the dipstick appears dirty forget it. That's what oil does! It cleans the engine!

New oil will look dirty after 10 or 15 miles of driving.

Also when an oil change is done, not all of the old oil is removed and subsequently mixes with the new oil. Are you new to driving?

Kirkwood Highway Pep Boys

April 2010

My Jeep Cherokee recently quit running while driving. I had the car towed to Pep Boys (it was late, they were closed) Went in to give them the key and explain the problem the next morning. Told them I had done some reseach, and the most likely cause was the crankshaft sensor.

The car sat for 2 days until they could get to it, at which time they ran their 90 dollar "diagnostic" which revealed nothing. They told me they didn't know what was wrong, and they would have to run more tests on components, which would cost another 100 dollars.

I called them back after 15 minutes, telling them to stop work, but they said they had found the problem: the ECM (the computer brain), and thet it would cost $660 to replace. I told them close the hood, I was having it towed out.

I spent some time browsing, and foud Atomotive Computer Exchange through eBay. I purchased a reconditioned "brain" from them, guarenteed for life for $185. I replaced the alleged "bad" one, and still no start.

Took it to a locally owned small repair shop, told him the trouble. He had it fixed in 1 hour. Seems it was the crankshaft sensor I had suggested to Pep Boys. Total repair bill: $180 (part was 100). Replaced old computer, still runs fine.

I just wonder if it was Pep Boys plan to keep replacing ignition related parts starting with the most expensive, until they stumbled upon the right one. Or maybe this is just how they trouble-shoot a problem. Either way, they have lost another customer.

like any other national retail chain, the store locations' performance is greatly reflected on the people who works there...

i used to be a service writer for pepboys & if the technicians are bad, then i had the responsibility to suggest replacements

i was just lucky to have a group of good workers (3 were ASE certified master mechanics) on my watch & i allow them to explain in further detail to the customer why a part has failed...

the only bad thing about being a service advisor was suggesting add-on sales; i personally told the customer due to the mileage/age of the vehicle, they're really recommended to have it done while they're getting their oil changed or brakes done

& refer them to their own owners' manual in the glovebox

One other thing i suggested to pepboys before i left... was a courtesy shuttle back to a nearby mall or home or workplace instead of sitting in the cramped waiting area

each store location is different... so include the location, w.tooms

Guest

went to pepboys to have a tie rod changed. drove out with a squeeking up front that wasn't there before the repair.

took it back within 4 min. and was told it was my hubcaps. the noise got louder and louder, i took it back 3 times and they refused to look at it and was told its still my hubcaps. two weeks later my brakes locked up and burned down to the metal.

500.00 brake repair that could have been prevented. NEVER AGAIN PEPBOYS.

Buy 4 tires get the 4th tire free

Went to Pep Boys last week to purchase tires based upon their ad that I could purchase 4 tires and get 1 free. I told the Asst. Service Mgr thats the deal I wanted and he wrote up the invoice. I took 4 tires to them in another vehicle and they mounted the tires on the rims and balanced them. They gave me the paperwork to submit for the rebate. A week later I get a post card that because they didn't charge me for road hazard I was denied the rebate. This was never mentioned to me when I purchased the tires and was under the impression everything was included. I even put the tires on the car myself. Today at the West Windsor store they give me half of the rebate back but don't give me the road hazard warranty. Essentially I paid for it. This is a scam.

Best way to wake up these SCAMMER companies is to file an online complaint with your state attorney.

It's quick and free, and if the state has lots of complaints on that company, they can investigate and even drag them into court, and that's the LAST THING the company wants.

I've done this ten times, and 9 times the company complied. Good luck!

Guest

Well...after doing the math, the $28/tire surcharge for the "package" including warranty, and then getting the price of one tire rebated, I found I'd save $18, over just buying 4 tires (with balancing) and no warranty. So, it's $18, but....

Guest

I got the same 3 for 4 package deal in february and everything was fine until I went to another Pepboys which is closer to me for balance and rotate under there warranty.

They refused to do it and told me it was a one time deal and I have to pay another $62.00 if I want it done. I had my receipt with the warranty on it but they still refused.

Guest

William Johmson's Pep Boys should teach my Pep Boys.

Guest

I may have somewhat of a similar problem. I purchased 4 truck tires with the understanding I would receive the price of one tire back as a rebate in about six weeks.

I don’t have my receipt in front of me but it seems like it may have been six months ago and still no rebate. I must confess that I was leery when I decided to buy tires from Pep Boys. I have had dealing with this bunch in the past and had to contact my state AG’s Office. It must be the mentality of the company that rest with the service department and tire sales.

In my opinion many of their service department employees are thug like with pushy attitudes.

I should have known better but *** is as *** does. Don’t mind shopping in their stores but car repair or new tires I would think twice.

Guest

I am comforted that there are pleased customers with PepBoys; maybe its this small portion of their clientele thats still keeping them in business.

Personally, i would recommend everyone to just stay clear of this institution. I had a terrible experience, and faced a personal vendetta because i did not let them weasel me out of $300 for a part that I ultimately paid $130 for at the dealership.

Guest

I got 4 tires for the price of 3 and received my rebate plus they sent me a voucher for $20.00 they rotate my tires for free also any problems I ever had with a part they always responded for their warrantees with a smile try to get that at a tire shop or garage:)

Charged me for rotors that were not replaced

I went to the PepBoys on 63rd and Western the day after Christmas to have my brakes replaced. I waited 4 hours to have them work on my vehicle. After leaving the brakes were still squeaking. Because I have a busy work schedule, I was not able to return to the store until late January. I was told that there was "dirt" between my brake pads and rotors that was causing the squealing. This was after the manager "test drove" my vehicle, but said he did not hear any squeaking, but will look at it anyway. After waiting another 3 hours, I left the shop with my brakes still making noise. I decided to go to a different PepBoys in early march to have my brakes looked at again. The manager at this location told me that I need new rotors. I explained to him that my rotors were just replaced 3 months ago. He told me the brake pads looked new, but not the rotors. I got completely JACKED at the first Pepboys location for $900. They charged me for rotors when all they did was replace brake pads that costs about $50. I will NEVER visit the 63rd & Western location again. To make matters worse, when I called the customer service number, I was told that the manager would be "spoken to" about this. EXCUSE ME!!! You put me on the road with deficient brakes and all that will happen is someone will be spoken to. I can only conclude that Pepboys' corporate office condones this type of behavior by their employees. Is it standard company policy to screw the public? I can clearly see why this website was created.

You really want to complain that there was a problem and yet you waited close to a month to go back in the first time, then 2 months to go back in again? You should have gone in with in the same month.

Sure you're job got in the way, but you seriously want people to believe that you don't have any free days.

You were an *** and you want someone else to blame. You should have gone back ASAP, not 'oh i'll go back in 3 weeks' and then when it still wasn't fixed 'oh i'll go back in 7 weeks'

hey, did you tell them that your rotors were replaced at another location?

they can look up past work done on your vehicle

and it should be covered under warranty

maybe the previous shop didn't "bed" the new pads/rotors properly is my guess
