In 2003, I had purchased a used truck with a brand new engine, literally brand new, right out of the garage. I went to go have it smogged at Pep Boys on Sepulveda Blvd. in Van Nuys. Once I got there, I checked in, left my truck, for 45 minutes, came back and the...

Did you know that the tires are typically only good for 4-5 years? After that, they dry-rot...so buying an 80,000 mile tire does you no good if you are not going to put those ...

Pep Boys in Austin, Texas - Terrible customer service!

I've been bringing my vehicles to PeP Boys for years and have spent thousands of dollars on service done. For the most part I was pretty satisfied with the work done at PeP Boys. That was until I brought my truck in for service due to bushing and possible struts. I had my oil changed at Jiffy Lube on 11/02/11 and ask if they can check the niose that I can hear knocking around when I'm driving. The tech ask me to come down and he showed me what the problem was that what causeing the noise. It was the bushing that needed to be replaced. I ask if they could change them out but they can not proform that type of work. So I call Pep Boys to get a quote and was told around $350 to $450. At that time I did not have any extra funds to do the work. So I waited and saved up the extra funds. About 30 days later, I called Pep Boys to schedule a good time to drop off my truck. I talk with Shane and explained to him about my bushing and the noise that it was makeing. He said that they would test drive and make sure that they would check it out. Later that day I get a call from Shane stating that my bushing were good but my front ball joints needed to be replaced and since the tires needed to be taken off we can replace the brake pads. I questioned that and asked about my bushings and Shane assured me the bushing were fine. The cost was double what i had budgeted but my wife and were planning on selling the truck and had no choice. The next day I recieve a call that the work was completed. When i arrived and spoke with Shane he said that they test drove the truck I felt they had me over a barrel and said go ahead and do the work. When I go to pick up my truck they had my a bill that is almost $1000.00 and I was in total shock. I was very upset, payed the bill and took my truck off the lot. I get half way down the block and my truck is doing the same exact thing it was doing when I brought it in but worse. I turned around and brought it right back to the shop and wanted to know who worked on my truck and who wrote up the work order. The work ordered stated check front end. That was such a lame discription and point blank lie on what I wanted them to check. I had them put my truck back up on the lift and when we looked at my bushing they hadn't been touched and that was the problem in the first place. I demaned to speak to the supervisor and get the issues resolved. My wife canceled the check I wrote and I told the guys I was not going to pay $1000.00 for their mistake. Pep Boys assured me they would get it resolved and did the work I asked in the first place. They call me later that day and stated I owed $800.00, that was unacceptable and I wanted a manager from Pep Boys to get back with me and discuss the charges. I never heard back from them, until I get a letter in the mail from a collection agency Complete Payment Recovery Services, Inc. 866-838-6092 demanding payment of $989.00. I am in the process of disputing the charges and I am expecting a call from Pep Boys regarding this matter and do expect excellent customer service ASAP.

PEP BOYS ON SCOTTSDALE RD AND THOMAS SUCKS! DON'T GO THERE.

It is way too long of a story to go into everything but the customer service was awful and they had my car for 11 hours to replace the 2 rear struts and do alignment! Then when I finally get my car back it has 3 engine lights on, on my dashboard. These lights have never come on before. I pulled my car right back in and they looked at it and didn't know how to fix it. Then I left pissed off and as I am driving my car is pulling to the right! After I got my alignment done. I took my car to a different Pep Boys and they were great. It was night and day! They informed me that the other location didn't follow a certain procedure on power vehicles to not trigger the dashboard lights and now their machines won't register it. The only place that can reset these lights is a dealership. Then they also informed me that the alignment wasn't even done right. They said one side was really tough to get the nut and bolt off so it appears that the other location just didn't do it! They fixed it free of charge and told me that the Scottsdale location needs to pay for me to go to a dealership to get my lights reset. The cost is $100.50 and I haven't hear back yet from the district manager. The general manager at this location was a complete ***. NEVER GO TO THIS PLACE, IT'S A JOKE!

Pep boys Alignment broke Camber on all 4 tires

I had my 1999 Acura Integra aligned by Pep boys Southampton, PA.. after couple of months all tires were eating from outside..camber adjustment was out. This same care was aligned by Sears before and never have an issue. Store manager was telling me that struts need to be replace, and camber kits will need to bought. They gave this same car a good alignment print out last September 5 and after 4 months the tires are all busted and will need to be replaced. I talk to the district manager Bryan and he sounded like he's Pep boys and does not work for their interest. I will file a complaint with PA State Attorney General's consumer Protection and Better business Bureau, and the township. I do my own repairs on my car; have rebuilt transmission, timing belts, and clutch on my cars. the only time a mechanic touch my cars is for inspection, wheel balancing and alignment; and I still get victimized by this sub-par mechanics and shops. I will never go back to Pep Boys again.

Pep Boys in Houston, Texas - OVER-CHARGED

There is a serious problem with the Pep Boys in Orland Park, IL. I brought my car in on 3-24-12 to have front end work done because noises when I hit a bump. They said they will charge $19.99 to inspect the front end and I asked if that amount would be applied to the bill if I have the repair work done. I was told no. They told me what was wrong I gave the OK to have repairs done. I had the control arms repaired. When it was done, I paid the bill and the cashier said the noise would be 95% gone. On the way home, the front-end noise was still there just as always as if nothing was done. I went on the internet on the Pep Boys site and while checking some info I saw that the inspection fee should be free when the work I done. I called the store and complained that the noise was still there and that I should not have been charged for the inspection fee and I was told they could look at that when I bring my car in again for the front-end noise. I had decided I was going to bring my car to Pep Boys anymore because I don't trust them to repair my car anymore. I called the corporate office many, many times and cannot get my $19.99 inspection fee refunded.
