Bad mechanics Puyallup Wa.

In Feb. 2012 I had the clutch replaced on my 1983 Ford F150. A month later I had to have the clutch readjusted, about a month later I had to have it readjusted again. About 1 1/2 month later I lost my clutch on the freeway (100,000 cars at the same time), way to go Pep Boys. Last Friday I lost it again this time just as I got home and almost rear ended my wifes car before I got it stopped. Their customer service number is a joke also, you can't get to placed your complaint with anybody that can do something about it. I will never go to Pep Boys again not even for a screw, I got that already and it wasn't fun.

Outrageous!

My daughter needed a new fuel pump, relay, and filter. I looked up the parts and the prices are pretty much comparable to Pep Boys...BUT why in the world was the labor alone $500.00???? I honestly think they were just taking advantage of the fact that she was a female and that she was young. So all totaled it was 800.00. The ONLY reason we went there was because it was a Saturday and couldn't find anyone else close who could get the job done today. Will honestly never go there again if I can help it.

Something has changed with pep boys. I have had work done there before, granted way expensive but the job was done right.

Another shop may have been a little less. But this time, I had to bring my car back 3 times to get my air conditioner working. Each time there was something else to charge more on.Cost totaling $1569.59. Shop fees for 3 visits $78 They stuck 39 dollar extended warranty on all, without me knowing. Got my money back for that.

My radiator fan was replaced since 1 of the 2 fans did not kick on, causing overheating while sitting too long with air conditioner on. Took it back again. Car sat the entire weekeknd without being moved. So much for warranty work.

Took it back today at 8am. It's 1pm and haven't heard a thing.Just called and was put on hold for over 10 minutes.Typing this while on hold. So much for pep boys.

Come to my store and i will personally take care of all of your purchase and service needs>.

ummmm, pep boys is the dumping ground for those that cant get jobs at real shops. pep boys is a parts store with a few ill qualified "parts changers".

Why anyone would take a car to pep boys for more than maybe tires, windshield wipers, or an oil change is perplexing. its a full retail shop, parts x5 is the business model, the techs might flag 12-15$ book time.(book says 2 hrs. they get paid 2 hrs. if it takes 10 hours, they get paid 2 hrs.)i personally get 50% of labor commission.

cant do better than that.

but i am qualified, and i am worth it. you give a monkey a handgun and it shoots someone, you cant blame the monkey.

Guest

Speed? It took them over 4 hrs just to rotate tires and do an oil change and inspect air conditioning unit and sold me a part I did not need.

On top of that oil change came with free 25 point inspection and my windshield washer fluid was not even filled.... Do what did they do?

Guest

Do you truly think people have nothing better to do with their time than throw themselves "Pity" parties? Our cars are an essential part of our lives, and incompetent $7 an hour mechanics are not held accountable for their mistakes.

One lone Pep Boys in the Lone Star state does not make up for the majority of untrained incompetent mechanics nationwide.

Kudos to you for your "neet" and on time service. Save your laughter and humor "quite funny" remarks for some real humor.

PEPBOYS does everything for less...

...especially PAYROLL!! I am currently an employee at a Pepboys store and I must admit, I am probably earning around the same income as I did 35 years ago. What a slap in the face!! They spend way too much time trying to brainwash employees into doing things the "pepboys way". I have been in the parts business for over 30 years and am very good at what I do...But apparently pepboys has their own little world and way of doing things. And the goofy looking clown outfits they make you wear is quite demeaning. Most of the mechanics are kids who think they know everything, but actually know nothing and they will make your car dangerous to drive. Do yourself a favor and go to a garage that has been in business in your town for a long time, and stick with them...they will treat you right! 99 percent of the parts and products at Pepboys are from China and cheaply made and they WILL FAIL and possibly get you or someone you love...INJURED!! Take it from someone who knows...unfortunately...and STAY AWAY! AS SOON AS SOMETHING BETTER COMES ALONG...I AM OUTTA HERE!!

race honda's? Kinda like go-cart racing.

I am also a Master Technician with 18 years experiance at dealerships. I was Lead Tech. at dealerships in AZ, CA,..Toyota Master Tech....tons of education, etc. I worked for Pep Boys for only 3 months.

I gave myself the title "King of the Retards". Staying away from that operation, employee or otherwise, is excellent advice.

They charge me omost $1200 all together...$34 piece end up costing me about $700 of labor how the FU#K IF THEY DIDN'T EVEN CHANGE MY WHOLE BREAK LINE SYSTEM just two whose & a clamp ... lazy work no way that was 7 hours of work.. I notice once I went under the car mu mechanic couldn't believe it either

Well...there you have it! After only 4 months on the job that they basically set me up to fail at, I have been let go for insubordination.

Apparently, me being honest to the customers that I have been dealing with for 30 plus years by telling them what to buy, and what not to buy from Pep Boys is considered wrong by the cooperate clowns. I have known these repair shops for a long, long time and if I sell them a part, and they put that part on a customers car, and a month later that part fails and the customer returns with the same problem...my customer is going to be pretty upset with me! So instead of pushing junk, I told them what to go elsewhere for, and they totally appreciate that. Honesty goes a very long way in this business, unfortunately...Pep Boys LIES!!

All of my GOOD customers since finding out of my Firing...have vowed to dis-continue doing business with Pep Boys for the ***-bag move that was pulled on me. They have been in the commercial parts business for 19 years and still haven't figured it out. Stick with RETAIL business clown boys...the poor retail customers don't realize how much they are being ripped off, but the repair shops definitely know better...thanks for nothing!

Have a nice day!

Hey Mister Happy...YOU are one of the few that has bought into the PEPBOYS WAY! Kiss a little more *** and you'll be working in Phili with the rest of the clowns.

The product they push is dangerous and cheap and made outside the country. And if you are happy sucking up to make a living, and selling your soul to the people who are taking jobs away from America, I FEEL SORRY FOR YOU! BUT YOU DO BELONG WITH THEM!

I personally tell my customers what to buy and what not to buy from me, and they totally appreciate that and that is why they do business with me...if I wasn't there, they would not call!! Have a nice day!

I still would like to know how their commission based pay is legal for service writers, I doubt very highly it is....someone there needs to start a union, employees would get treated a lot better and not get paid complete c r a p

I'm also a current pepboys employee,I have a good standing, and am the first person other employees come towhen they need something done. But 2 years ago I came to work and was surprised when I looked at the schedule to see that I was only working 16 hours that week and was informed that I was now part time, though nobody told me.Then in october I was offered a position in parts and after hearing that it was actually as a service writer I decided not to take it and was informed that I either took the position or I wouldn't have a job.I have worked in service, commercial, and now retail-I even had to take a $3.00/hour pay cut after being there for 7 years. This company will *** if you don't drink the "kool-aid" and have your own opinion.

i too work for pepboys and they treat me great and my store has a great service department and parts i have good hard working honest master techs with 20 years expierience i myself have 15 at dealers and i was a leadtech there then moved on to head tech on a 4 time 1st place honda racing team there is only one reason you are unhappy galecast is no pride in your job.the ones that sit in the backround dont get raises or advance their careers make something of yourself then you might get paid for it

Warranty on PepBoys tires is a joke.....

I bought 4 brand new tires from pepboys in Howell New Jersey this past November. These tires supposedly came with a 100,000 mile warranty.

Ok great so if anything happens I will be covered... Not so fast....So on the way home from work thursday as I arrived home I hear a hissing noise comming from my back tire, Yup I got a flat...This morning I bring my car to pepBoys thinking i would get my tire fixed free of charge under the warranty. Well thats a joke, The first guy I talked to said it will be covered under warranty and it will be no charge to me.. Then about a hour later I get called up to the desk and im told i will have to buy a new tire, So what kind of warranty is that...

Its not one... I will tell everyone I know not to go to Pep Boys.. Maybe they should stand behind there warranty... because thats why I bought them in tjhe first place...

Pepboys you got $100 out of me today but you lost a customer for life.... Dumbos

Thank you for posting this artlcie. I also plugged the show on Facebook, with mixed results from my friends.

All I ask of people, whether they are familiar with homeopathy or not, is to watch my designer . They are very very beautiful.

Hi what was the brand name of the tire and did you purchase road hazard as all tire manufactures cover mileage and defects only the sad part is you are right that Pepboys is a joke, as they should of informed you what is covered and what is not covered as i know for a fact you were not told this cause they just wanted to make a sale a long with meeting the quota.

Pep Boys and Tire Sale

Four year ago, I bought four Hankook Mileage Plus Tires which is claimed to cover 80,000 miles. When I was ordering these tires the service man showed me the size tire that is suppose to go on my truck. The computer said 205/70r14. I said but the tires your taking off are 205/75r14. He said, that this is what our system said will work on your vehicle. So, I bought what he had to say and let them install the tires and went on my way. Later on, I realized after doing some research that the correct tire size to put on my vehicle were 205/75r14. What does this mean? It means that my vehicle was now getting less mpg and more odometer mileage because the tires are smaller they turn more often, this also means more friction and heat; I believe this contributed to the excessive wear or my tires. I did go back to talk to Pep Boys about it and all they did what come out with their tire gauge, measure the tires, then after they calculated the prorated wear said that the amount of compensation is nominal and that I'd be better off buying their "buy three tires get one free". Unfortunately, I can't prove that Pep Boys is to blame for the excessive wear on my tires but I hope this article reaches enough people to make a financial impression. Now understand there are many reasons why tires wear out faster then normal: road conditions, misalignment, low tire pressure, not rotating the tires and worn out shocks. I have gotten approximately 40 to 45 thousand miles on my tires. I think I have another 5 thousand left if I am lucky and that's it. I have rotated them, made sure that they had air in them every week or several weeks, I drove very conservatively and mostly on the freeway. Now, I am looking for new tires already and it has only been four years and in that time I have traveled around 40 to 45 thousand miles. I am very disappointed in these tires and Pep Boys. You know I could have been saving money on gas if I had the right size tires on. I really think Pep Boys better check the automotive manuals and owners should stick to what they know actually goes on the vehicle. So, if someone tries to sell you a smaller tire, don't buy it, your better off buying the correct size so you get the best mileage and mpg out of them.

Did you know that the tires are typically only good for 4-5 years? After that, they dry-rot...so buying an 80,000 mile tire does you no good if you are not going to put those miles on in a timely manner before the tires themselves are junk.

Customer service,unhappy and concerned parent.

My daughter took her vehicle to Pep Boys in Ok. by Tinker AFB. To have a oil change and tires rotated so she could drive to Ca. On her way the front tire kept going low(fortunately it didn't blow out) they had rotated a bad tire to the front. She had to buy a new tire in Az. I would hope as a professional they would know not to put a bad tire on the front! We are lucky it didn't turn bad and would hope this don't happen to someone else. Tell me all about it here is a review I wrote also

Wow what can I say about the incompetence of Pep Boys in Egg Harbor Township in NJ. Based on So many other reviews I don't understand how they are able to stay in Business. I took my car to Pep Boys to check out an Idle control issue i started having. They called me back and said it will be $90 for the inspection and that they looked at it for 30 mins and think that it was a problem with my Electronic control module. Well I caught them in a lie and I immediately refused to pay for the service because not only was my ECM perfectly fine but I left my Idle Control Valve unplugged cause that was what was giving me problems. So any dumbest mechanic would say hey your Idle control valve is disconnected and that's why you have idle control issues. So all that means that they didn't even look at the car and LIED to make an extra hundred bucks. When I confronted the Manager his version was that he saw all the loose wires from my Idle control and told his mechanic not to work on my car because they don't do electric work and that i don't have to pay. NO *** I DON"T HAVE TO PAY!! you didn't do anything to get paid for unless we pay for lies. but thats just the start....Talk about a bad day......

As I'm leaving pep boys to get my car from their lot where they parked it I notice the front of my car smashed in and Bunch of mechanics are standing in front of it. I'm like What The *** happened. One of the mechanics told me that he forgot to bleed the breaks on a van he was working on and when he tried to back up out of the garage the van wouldn't stop and crashed into my car. WTF right? If I was a minute sooner that could have been mine or your child behind that van. They had the nerve to tell me that I should have picked up the car the day before when they told me it was finished. WHAT???!! LOL. Well if you guys have my car maybe i can't get to it that day. So if anyone can't pick up their car pep boys will damage it I guess.

Well anyway I cannot drive the car because the fender is pushed into my tire. I cannot rent a car because I'm living day by day and I don't have enough money to do so so I have to spend $40 a day to take a cab to work and back. And Can't even go to store to get groceries for my two year old. Pep Boys REFUSES to help out in anyway in car rental and their claim department is giving me the runaround on the $2,300 damage they caused.

What a Sorry Excuse of a Business Pep Boys are. If there is another mechanic near you I would recommend you go with them instead of Pep Boys and if all that's available just junk your car cause that is what they will do to it anyway. I'm stressed out of my mind. Don't have time to take my son and go to work on time have to call out of work which i can't afford cause I get points for being late. Never Will they get my business again but a lot of my friends said they will never go there either. sorry for the long rant But PISSED DOES NOT EXPLAIN HOW I FEEL!!

Pep boys customer service is awful

My college daughter went to pep boys in Doraville, ga and the service was horrible she went in for an intake hose and then the guy said it wasn't that and needed a different hose he then jacked the price up and when she told him she couldn't get it fixed today and he put the hose back on there and then my daughter couldn't even get her car to crank and when i told them that they needed to get her car to crank so she can leave because it was cranking just fine before she got there they stated it's not their problem and she just need to get the hose fixed. This is the worst customer service i've ever experienced in my life....................DON'T GO TO PEP BOYS IN DORAVILLE GAA

Front strut replacement

Refer to service work order #208**** - Store ID 0866

I took vehicle in on 11/13/2011. I explained the problem - they test drove the vehicle and replaced the struts and tie-rod. The vehicle continued to make the same noise. I finally took the vehicle to a mechanic on 3/30/2012 and he fixed the problem. He replaced the hub assembly on both front wheels.

He also noticed the shocks were defective - both did not have coimpression at all. The work was done by PepBoys in Hemet, Ca. I work in Yucaipa which is also where the mechanic is located. I called your Yucaipa store to see if they would fix the problem. I was told I did not buy an extended warranty and therefore all they could do is replace the shocks, but would have to charge $80-$90 per side labor. The mechanic already had everything apart - so I had the mechanic go to the Yucaipa Store to pick up the

replacement shocks and he would install. He spoke with Victor Hernandez (Manager) They did not have the shocks in inventory. I ended up purchasing shocks from another store - O Reilly Auto Parts - which I paid $127.71 for the 2 shocks.

I made that decision to have the mechanic do the replacement because the vehicle was completely torn apart on the front end and the labor was almost nothing for him to install since he had it apart anyway.

I do not feel PepBoys did an adequate job of evaluating what the problem was to begin with - they did not find the problem I was complaining about when I initially took it to them 11/13/2011 - the shocks were not the problem! - it was the hub assembly parts that needed to be replaced. And the shocks they replaced were defective. I have the shocks that were defective in my possession waiting to hear back from you and what you can do to correct what has transpired. I have been a customer of Pep Boys for 35 years and never had a problem until now. What can be done to compensate me for the mess?

Lack of respect!!!!!!

I reported on 12/28/2011 at 10:20 am, case # 99797. According to their online customer issue system guidelines, the expected response was 48 hours. As of 1/3/2012, I have not received a call or written response from their company. The following provides the details of the complaint along with attachments of the price matching guarantee which was not honored. Needless to say, the lack of response further escalates my frustration with their customer service. I am very disappointed in the poor customer service, lack of responsiveness, wasted money and invaluable hours of time that their establishment have cost me. I called the Marlow Hieghts store on December 24th approximately 3:30pm and spoke to Anitra the customer service rep., I told her I had my own tires and I wanted to know if they would fit my car. Anitra placed me on hold came back and said that they would fit. I also asked what time they closed and if they would be able to install, she said they close at 6pm and they would be able to install them. I arrived at the store at 4pm to have the tires installed only to be told by Victor that they would not be able to install my tires and I had to wait until Monday. He said if I would have communicated to them my tire size he would have let me know that they could not do it because the tire tech was leaving at 5pm. After talking to Victor and Anitra they came to the conclusion that it was a communication error on their part and they were sorry however I had to wait until Monday to have the tires installed. Very upset and displeased because not only did I have to order my own tires because Victor would not honor the price match guarantee which Sears sold the tires $100.00 dollars cheaper than Pep Boys, now they had me come all the way up there and he did not want to install my tires. I immediately left the store and contacted Shawn Patterson the customer service guy and explained to him what was going on. He immediately called the store and called me back to tell me to go back to the store to have the tires installed. I agreed. I went back to the store had the tires installed only to find out an hour later the tires do not fit. After being told the tires would fit and two and half hours later being told they do not fit I decided to leave the car and come back Monday morning for them to put the old tires back on the car. I arrived Monday morning 9:15 am and was told the tire tech was not in and they would call m e when my car was ready the customer service rep told me that they could probably switch the tires around, put the new tires which were in the front in the rear and place the rear ones in the front, I was fine with that and told him to call me and let me know. I r eceived a call at 5pm from Tanya the customer service rep stating my car was ready. I asked her what did they actually do? Tanya placed me on hold and came back to the phone and said they switch the tires around. When I arrived at the store Tanya said the total was $49.95, I agreed since they did put the new tires on. I asked her where the old tires were because I wanted to keep them for spares. I met her around the back where she rolled out the set of brand new tires with the tire tech Jesse who noted they were no good because something on the car had been rubbing them and was tearing into the tire. To add insult to injury Emanuel another technician admitted to driving my car, not knowingly damaging the brand ne w tires. By now I am livid because I was charged $50 dollars for nothing! I have a set of brand new tires which your store damaged and are useless to me! Further, if I did not request that the tires be returned to me, they would have been trashed. I asked to speak with the manager and was told "no manager is available and to call the store on Tuesday". This ordeal over the holiday weekend has cost me a great deal of frustration, time and wasted money. What place of business handle customers with such little regard, respect and adds to the frustration by not honoring their guarantee and not taking any immediate action to resolve an issue that escalated. Instead, tells a customer to contact the manger the next day on an issue created and perpetuated by their wrong doing? This is unacceptable service. Sincerely, George Buckmon

I don't understand why you had the tires installed at Pep Boys in the first place. You bought them from Sears, why didn't you have them install them?

Or any other shop without the HORRIBLE reputation of Pep Boys?

You are obviously one of those people that just always seems to have this type of experience aren't you? You were already upset with their service because they wouldn't match the price, so you bought them somewhere else but still wanted them to install them...What was it about this store that made you think you would have a good experience?

If you're gonna bring your own tires, maybe you should make sure they fit? Do you bring your own eggs to the diner and then complain about the way the omelet tastes?

Ripped Off- Scammed - STAY AWAY

03/29/12 - I have a chrysler Sebring Convertible and for the last couple of years the air conditioner just blew hot air so I finally decided this spring to get it fixed. I took it to Pep Boys in Madison, TN and they said it would cost $800.00 to fix it. I agreed to the amount so they proceeded. I picked it up drove it off the lot and it was blowing cool air. I turned it off and for the last couple of days used my convertible no air needed. But on wednesday, I decided to no put the top down and use my new air. NOPE...Not working. So I took it this morning back to the Pep Boys and told them it is not fixed and they needed to fix it. The pep boys associated called me and told me it was going to cost another $500.00 because the compressor went out on it. (Claims it was after I left their shop is when it went out). DAH BIG RED TRUCK...I didn't fall off the turnip truck yesterday. I proceeded to fix it I was not going to pay them another $1. I paid $800.00 and it's not working.l They refuse. I told them I was going to get a couple of other mechanics to look at and I called two different place told them what happened and the work that is on Pep Boys receipt and both mechanics were shocked. So I am going to both of them for them to look at it for a written evaluation to take back to Pep Boys. Makes me worry that if they do agree to fix it they might mess up something else out of meaness. Either way I'm SCREWED...PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM PEP BOYS...GO SOMEPLACE ELSE. Bad AC Compressor

I bought a AC compressor from Pep Boys, and had it installed by a licened machanic. It came with a 12 month warranty.

It was working fine at first. about 20 miles down the rode it started making a grinding noise. I later took it back to the machanic that installed it. He said it has a bad clutch in it.

So I call Pep Boy's And they tell me the labor to change it out won't be covered. So now I have to pay to have the unit drained and reinstalled. I already paid to have it installed.

What a joke..!! Pep Boy's just lost a costumer I've been going there for forty plus years.

here is the deal, i have customers bring in parts and tell them up front that if you supply the part, if the part fails due to no fault of mine, i dont warranty the labor, you pay again, HERE IS THE REASONING: if you buy a substandard part to save money, how is right fr me to do the job twice? my time is money.

i have supplied parts that have failed and honored the warranty parts and labor. any shop takes a markup on the part, that's just business. everything is made in china these days, or japan, or indonesia or mexico where cutting corners in manufacturing is standard operating procedure. chances are 1 in 10 will fail.

if they sekl you a part, its the part they warranty.

if they sell you a job, its the whole job they warranty. simple.

Guest

why would you expect them to pay labor????!!!!! do you want them to pay for cheese and wine also????

Guest

....will warranty labor for something that they didn't install. I'm more than sure if u would have bought it there AND had it installed there, they would have warrantied it......most likely.

PEP BOYS ON SCOTTSDALE RD AND THOMAS SUCKS! DON'T GO THERE.

It is way too long of a story to go into everything but the customer service was awful and they had my car for 11 hours to replace the 2 rear struts and do alignment! Then when I finally get my car back it has 3 engine lights on, on my dashboard. These lights have never come on before. I pulled my car right back in and they looked at it and didn't know how to fix it. Then I left pissed off and as I am driving my car is pulling to the right! After I got my alignment done. I took my car to a different Pep Boys and they were great. It was night and day! They informed me that the other location didn't follow a certain procedure on power vehicles to not trigger the dashboard lights and now their machines won't register it. The only place that can reset these lights is a dealership. Then they also informed me that the alignment wasn't even done right. They said one side was really tough to get the nut and bolt off so it appears that the other location just didn't do it! They fixed it free of charge and told me that the Scottsdale location needs to pay for me to go to a dealership to get my lights reset. The cost is $100.50 and I haven't hear back yet from the district manager. The general manager at this location was a complete ***. NEVER GO TO THIS PLACE, IT'S A JOKE!
