PepBoys!

The worst place! Every time I take my car to them something else goes wrong, take it back, something else goes wrong!!! They put brakes on and in less than a year the brakes totally went out!!! Took it back because of the noise and they couldn't find anything wrong - did this several times! They are terrible and I will never go back to them nor will I ever refer them to anyone! The store is in Miamisburg, OH - don't go there - you will be ripped off and not given any satisfaction when you ask them about their work!

They are complete rip off's. Especially when you learn that they charge 150 percent mark up for parts.

The one in Montgomery, Ala are horrible and I will never ever ever ever recommend them either.

OMG! Pep Boys CRASHED into my parked car and they wont help!

Wow what can I say about the incompetence of Pep Boys in Egg Harbor Township in NJ. Based on So many other reviews I don't understand how they are able to stay in Business. I took my car to Pep Boys to check out an Idle control issue i started having. They called me back and said it will be $90 for the inspection and that they looked at it for 30 mins and think that it was a problem with my Electronic control module. Well I caught them in a lie and I immediately refused to pay for the service because not only was my ECM perfectly fine but I left my Idle Control Valve unplugged cause that was what was giving me problems. So any dumbest mechanic would say hey your Idle control valve is disconnected and that's why you have idle control issues. So all that means that they didn't even look at the car and LIED to make an extra hundred bucks. When I confronted the Manager his version was that he saw all the loose wires from my Idle control and told his mechanic not to work on my car because they don't do electric work and that i don't have to pay. NO *** I DON"T HAVE TO PAY!! you didn't do anything to get paid for unless we pay for lies. but thats just the start....Talk about a bad day...... As I'm leaving pep boys to get my car from their lot where they parked it I notice the front of my car smashed in and Bunch of mechanics are standing in front of it. I'm like What The *** happened. One of the mechanics told me that he forgot to bleed the breaks on a van he was working on and when he tried to back up out of the garage the van wouldn't stop and crashed into my car. WTF right? If I was a minute sooner that could have been mine or your child behind that van. They had the nerve to tell me that I should have picked up the car the day before when they told me it was finished. WHAT???!! LOL. Well if you guys have my car maybe i can't get to it that day. So if anyone can't pick up their car pep boys will damage it I guess. Well anyway I cannot drive the car because the fender is pushed into my tire. I cannot rent a car because I'm living day by day and I don't have enough money to do so so I have to spend $40 a day to take a cab to work and back. And Can't even go to store to get groceries for my two year old. Pep Boys REFUSES to help out in anyway in car rental and their claim department is giving me the runaround on the $2,300 damage they caused. What a Sorry Excuse of a Business Pep Boys are. If there is another mechanic near you I would recommend you go with them instead of Pep Boys and if all that's available just junk your car cause that is what they will do to it anyway. I'm stressed out of my mind. Don't have time to take my son and go to work on time have to call out of work which i can't afford cause I get points for being late. Never Will they get my business again but a lot of my friends said they will never go there either. sorry for the long rant But PISSED DOES NOT EXPLAIN HOW I FEEL!!

this is to mike, do you work for that pep boys? did you crash the car?

seem you arent seeing the rub here, they crashed into a parked car, the tech admitted he didnt bleed the brakes, so pep boys is responsible for that techs poor judgement and incompetence. if the car was left outside at night as per company policy and was burglarized that would be a different story.

thats like being told by a driver that just hit your car "if you would have stayed home i wouldnt have hit you". thats ridiculous.

Guest

You realize that your story is full of holes, right? You stated that you had an idle control problem and that you specifically disconnected the IAC.

You obviously didn't tell them that from the get go. They scanned the system and probably got an assortment of codes that would lead a mechanic to believe a bigger problem is the case. An ECM ISN'T an electronic control module. It's an engine control module.

So is that what you are referring to? You said it yourself that any dumb mechanic could point out the disconnected IAC. Well what *** told you to a.) Disconnect it and b.) Drive around with it disconnected? As far as the lot damage, there are signs stating the business is not responsible for lot damage and in some cases, you are acknowledging that risk when you sign the work order.

You also said that you had work finished and left the car overnight. If you didn't do anything more than a diagnostic check, what prevented you from picking the car up? Most Pep Boys are open until 9 or later with no gate. You say you live day-to-day, but manage to spend $40 a day for a taxi?

You don't have the money to fix your fender, but you have $200+ per week to spend on a taxi. On top of that, you or someone you know was smart enough to recognize the IAC specifically, but not smart enough to get a used or aftermarket fender to get you on your way.

Okay, go back immediately and make a police report, also note that almost all these stores have video cameras so they can see what the questionable mechanic part changers are doing, send a letter and contact the regional manager, make sure you send a certified letter to corporate so you are covered, yes they will scheme and lie if they think it will work, good luck, most of all be persistent, what they are scared of the most is to have other people see what happens , remember the truth shall set you free.... They just want to say their truth, but cameras don't lie, good luck. Don't give up

Engine Light

On September 27, 2012 I took my car to the Vehicle Emissions Inspection Site. The Gentlemen told me to have someone fix the problem, because I failed the emission test. On October 26, 2012 I took my car to PepBoys on Liberty Road in Randalltowns Maryland, because my engine light was showing on the dash board. The Technician said it was my Thermostat. I thought the Technician fix the problem. However, the engine light came back on the next day. I called the PepBoys in Randallstown and told them the engine light came back on and I was going to take my car back to the PepBoys on Baltimore National Pike. Mr. Christopher Belcher, the manager, in Randallstown looked at my car. Mr. Belcher told me it was the Po303 Cylinder 3 misfire. However, the engine light came back on the next day. I took my car back and Mr. Belcher gave me an appointment to come back in to see a Technician, to do a diagnositic test. I took my car back and the Techician recommended me to have a major engine repair facility fix the problem after I paid $250.00 for PepBoys to fix the problem.

Called pepboys monday for an estimate on replacing the front pinion seal in my 93 1/2 ton chevy, quoted 101.20, I had an appointment for tire replacement at 2pm 10/24/2012. Got there early, no schedule for my pinion repair, so the service writer says he will get me the estimate and price of part, $6.19, he then gives me an estimate of $858.00 on an original estimate of $624.43, his computer said remove and peplace rear pinion seal 101.20 which would be plus the $6.19 for seal and tax. And I am a mechanic I just can't do the work anymore because of health. He them added a charge to pull driveshaft, remove pinion nut and flange, all three of these we added to the remove and replace seal, when i got upset he made me wait in parking lot, and wouldn't install my tires, when i went in to retrive my keys he then called the police on me due to the fact I had been lied to.

Poor Store Management/Do not buy from Pep Boys Store

This review is about the store at 520 contra costa blvd, phlesant Hill, Ca 94523. You know the old saying, "You never know how good a company is until you have a problem with their product or service" . Well my problem with the pep boys store was replacing A BATERY that i had purchase with a store warranty. First off, one of the first things you need to know is the pep boys way of doing business. They have a lot of red tape in their return or replacement warranty policy especially for auto parts that are not of good quality such as their Bosch product line. The store mangement has all the authority to make decision against customers return. So you know race has priority when it comes to returns or refunds. Im still dealing with this situation an will update customer of the out come. Do not shop at Pep Boys! The entire company needs a overhall from the top down.

NOT where to go for tire rotation

Had a coupon for oil change and FREE tire rotation but Pep Boys refused to give me what I needed.

Pep Boys has a very strict company policy to NOT rotate your tires if the difference between the front and the rear tires is greater than 1/64". All 4 tires were purchased at the same time (less than a year ago) and I knew it was slightly past time for tire rotation, but because the tread difference between the front tires and rear tires were "outside" their company policy, they would rather have you leave their business with the poorer tires on the front.

After years of dedicated service...

see ya in another world Pep Boys!

You don't understand the whole issue. There is an national standard that all companies must follow for consumer safety. If you don't value you or your family's safety then find a company who doesn't care about you or your family.

How do you know they care about us and our family? Unless you are working there!? Then you should know who they care more about: themselves!

Pep Boys free tire rip off

I bought the buy 3 tires get the 4th one free... Not really correct.. you buy all 4 tires and they give you store service card that expires before you can use it for the fourth at the Berlin turnpike store in Connecticut. Out of $102 rebate. the kept $70.03 for their own pockets. I called the card number- just promotional number but called and spoke to Salva (i think was her name), she said nothing they can do, your card is no good and you are not getting your money back. When the card was refused I was in the middle of getting a brake line replaced.. Price $500.00 rip off #2.. Stay away from this company - stealing is legal to them.

Pep Boys - Appointments

I went to the full service center Pep Boys in El Paso, TX on Dyer St. I scheduled an appointment for the next day at 9 am the clerk told me how about 9:30 am just incase, figured between the decent service at the time I'd get a good service, well come 9:30 am there was a line that took half hour to get through (3 people) then one and half hours later my vehicle sat in the same place I parked it when I pulled in. Other people came in without appointments and were seen before me, so that point I decided to leave, never mind the fact they couldn't even find my paperwork or keys, I'd guess I saved myself future trouble because they would have not even been able to do any mechanical work just raised the car lower it and tell me I was good. Needless to say if anyone plans to get work done there DON'T, you'll end up with wasted time and a good chance your stuff will not even get fixed

Pep boys can't quote right, and are sexist pigs!

As a young person with little money to spend fixing my car, and a delivery driver that needs their car to work, I've tried on multiple occasions to use pep boys as a nearby repair place. The first time, they told me that, despite their many POWER tools and such, they couldn't change my oil because they couldn't get the oil pan nut off.

My boyfriend did it the next day, by hand. How this makes sense, i will never know, but this was nothing compared to the next visit i had. My car was overheating, because there was air in the coolant line, and that blew my old bleeder valve off. So, i bought the part, and called pep boys for a quote on a "coolant bleeder valve and the transfer tube thingy" and was greeted with a mere $90 labor price.

Awesome! So the next day i towed my car there, and showed them the part and, "it's going to be $600". Excuse me? I told them what i was quoted and asked to speak to a manager, who took 10 minutes to even come to the counter.

He just told me this is what it is, sorry for the inconvenience. I towed my car elsewhere, and was told $200, which was fine.

I complained on their website and the manager called me to apologize (i am sure it was forced) and then stated "Women can get emotional when they get something wrong, and it's in their nature to not know what car parts they're talking about". So, not only due to their lack of service, but now sexism is on their list of reasons to avoid this place like the plague.

Pep Boys quoted me a price for a new starter for about $575. I showed them a price from another repair shop for a new starter/labor for $405. Pep Boys said they would beat that quote by 5% so I paid $390 for a new starter.

About 35 days later car would not start one day for about 15 minutes. I ignored this and about 55 days after starter was installed car would not start again and I was stranded in a national forest for 20 hours. I got a jump start and then replaced my battery but then the car did not seem to want to start a day or two after new battery was installed.

Took car back to Pep Boys and they said starter was ruined and I needed a new flywheel but starter was still under 90 warranty but they wanted about $1,050 to replace/fix flywheel

Did their new starter ruin my flywheel or did my damaged flywheel ruin their new starter? Why did they not look at my flywheel before their new starter was installed?

I told them I did not want the repair done on that particular day and they said they were not going to charge me for the labor to find out my flywheel was damaged as if they were making an exception for me.

I went somewhere else and got a new starter, flywheel and clutch put in for about $1,600. I did not want Pep Boys to make this repair even though I had to pay for a new starter somewhere else.

I wasted $390 of precious money for a starter that lasted less than 2 months.

WHOLE IN RADITOR BECOMES WHOLE IN POCKET

1st: Was driving my car and noticed smoke coming out of the engine bay I pull over and found a whole in my radiator. PEPBOYS replaced the radiator everything worked fine until a couple days later. When I noticed my car started to sputter and smoke. Popped the hood and found that my coolant reservoir was melted at the top stopping water from entering and exiting. I took it to PEPBOYS AGAIN. 2nd: They could not find an OEM or equivalent replacement for the reservoir so they used a universal one, the same one they sell in the store. A couple days go by and car starts doing it again smoking and sputtering I pull over and find the reservoir cap gone; it could not handle the pressure I guess. I took it to PEPBOYS again. 3rd: It took them 4 days to get an OEM replacement for my car. I waited 45 minutes in line just to wait another 20 minutes to pay and get my keys. I drove my car for about 20 minutes and again whoop there it is, smoke and sputtering. This time I took my car to merchants and they informed me that I have a blown head gasket. dont know what to do any suggestions

Waited 3 hours for oil change; car still parked outside

I thought Grismer's had caused a brake fluid leak on our Nissan Quest during an oil change two weeks earlier. Hence, I decided yesterday to take my Hyundai Accent to Pep Boys on Springboro Pike, hoping they would do a straightforward oil change in a reasonable time.

They gave me a 10 am appointment for the oil change. To me, this would mean that my car would be taken into the garage floor shortly after 10 am, and perhaps the job would be completed in about an hour or so.

I had other appointments set up after 12 noon, and was confident I would be out of Pep Boys long before that.

Believe it or not, I sat inside the shop for a painfully long time; I even got out and took a long walk through the aisles in the neighboring GFS food store. Soon it was past 12 noon, and I noticed my car was still sitting in the parking lot, doors locked. At this point I walked to the front desk and complained about the delay. They demonstrated confusion about the task at hand and the paperwork, and also a complete disregard for my sitting there with nothing getting done. They simply told me they were going to get it done.

Another hour went by. Around 1 pm, I finally went to the desk and asked for my key back. The shop simply pulled the key off the wall, handed it to me, and tore up their work sheet. No apologies, no regrets, no explanations, no assurance about getting a job done for which they had given an appointment in advance.

This is criminal negligence of work, extreme discourtesy, and unbelievable overall incompetence. After 3 wasted hours, I drove my car from the Pep Boys lot and went to Grismer's- a garage I was trying to avoid. Grismer's at least took my car in without any appointment, and got the oil change done in 45 minutes.

Grade for Pep Boys: *** .

Same problem here:

Tuesday I went there around 10 AM for an oil change service worth of $79.99

The Service consultant (Dom) said the procedure will take around 45 minutes.

But until 11:15 my car still at parking lot and he said I am next but no guarantee when they will start with my car.

So I asked him about Wednesday schedule around 9:30 - 10:00 AM, and he said it will guarantee my spot on that time. So I conform that window time and he said its all set up for tomorrow (Wednesday).

And today on Wednesday, I was there from 9:15 AM waiting in line.

At 9:30 I got on their desk and someone else assist me and he said he cannot find my paper work. He send me to Dom, and Dom immediately send me to other person.

The other person check on his computer and said I got no scheduled appointment.

What gives ?

I said: just forget it and start to leave.

He call me back and said that the oil change still can be done.

I asked him: can you do it right away?

His respond: no, because you don't have the appointment.

and even if you have appointment, it only guarantee you the spot,

but not guarantee we will do it right away.

That was the most ridiculous thing I ever heard.

I already spend 1.5 hour on Tuesday for nothing and honestly I don't want to waste another 1.5 hours or more today without knowing what it will gonna be.

I do have APPOINTMENT, it was PEPBOYS guy who screwed it up.

What is the point of guarantee the spot if they cannot do it right away,

why not just say guarantee parking space in the parking lot until we decided we are ready.

And their manager just sit and doing nothing inside his booth behind the service desk. Really disappoint.

Where is the 45 minutes or free oil change that I used to love.

Pep Boys just lost onether costumer for good.

regards,

unhappy costumer.
